Aorangi Undulator 100km stage race

The Aorangi Undulator 100 is a beast as it spans 3 days, crosses from Wellington to the Wairarapa, and clocks up some serious distance and elevation. But most of all, it provides dozens of wonderful memories. So I’ve decided to keep this blog simple and describe in my favourite statistics:

  • Time: 3 days
  • Competitors: 20 new mates sharing in an adventure created for the crazy
  • Support Crew: A bunch of other new mates who helped us crazy ones do our thing
  • Distance: 105.4 kilometres run
  • Elevation gain: 4396m
  • Cramps: Zero - that’s a first
  • Injuries: A dozen spills but nil injuries
  • Caffeine: Way too many caffeine fixes via energy gels
  • Caffeine: Way too few flat whites
  • Caffeine: 1 very timely fresh stove top long black 12kms up the remote Orongorongo river bed
  • Nutrition: 2 amazing feeds with new friend and then 2 great nights sleep at the Waimeha Camping Village in Ngawi

  • Rewards: 1 new pair of undies and the Spirit Award.
  • Result: 1 very happy guy who was so nervous and really wondered if this Undulator thing was possible, and discovered it was!

Thanks to all who listened, watched, supported, and put up with me for the past few days … I appreciate it and am richer for it!

By the way I came 20th, my best result ever in an ultra … oh yeah, and there were 21 of us racing, and I loved running most of it with Jo, who came 21st, an equally impressive result, and with Rosie who blasted out day 3 as if it was her day 1!

Time: 8:11:56

Elevation Gain: 864m

Day 2

Distance: 31.71km

Time: 10:11:57

Elevation Gain: 1984m

Day 3
